Description

Lining on the intestinal lumen surface, human small intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) play a crucial role in food digestion, nutrient absorption and more importantly, constitutes a physical barrier that separates host from commensal microbiota. The crypts and villi border the surface area of intestinal epithelium and homes a variety of specialized epithelial lineages including absorptive enterocytes, enteroendocrine cells, goblet cells and Paneth cells. Unique to small intestine, Paneth cells lines in the base of crypts and secretes numerous antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) that strictly regulate antimicrobial resistance. Deregulated intestinal barrier function is often associated with increased risk of intestinal inflammation, systematic immune activation, development of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and increased sensitivity to chronic viral infections.
Why choose Human small intestine epithelial cells from AcceGen?
AcceGen Human small intestine epithelial cells are isolated from whole small intestines and dissociated into single cells. Cells are cryopreserved at P2 immediately after isolation. Each vial contains at least 5×10^5 cells in 1 ml volume. Human Small Intestinal Epithelial Cells are tested for expression of markers using antibody, E-cadherin or ZO-1 Rabbit Polyclonal Antibody by immunofluorescence staining. All cells test negative for mycoplasma, bacteria, yeast, and fungi. HIV-1, hepatitis B and hepatitis C are not detected for all donors and/or cell lots. Cells can be expanded for 2-4 passages at a split ratio of 1:2 or 1:3 under the cell culture conditions specified by AcceGen.

Application

For research use only
Small Intestine Epithelial Cells Function
Human small intestinal epithelial cells provide an ideal cell model system that can be used to study the physiology and pathophysiology associated with small intestine. The cells can be useful in expression profiling, studying host-commensal microbial interactions, mucosal immunity and investigate the etiology or pathology of intestinal disease. They can be used as the platform for drug development where drug absorption, drug metabolism, and gastrointestinal permeabilities can be tested and provide novel insights for drug candidates.

QuestionsoneWhat are Human Small Intestine Epithelial Cells?
Answerone

Human Small Intestine Epithelial Cells are cells that line the surface of the small intestine, responsible for absorbing nutrients, secreting enzymes, and forming a barrier against pathogens and toxins.

QuestionstwoHow many times can Human Small Intestine Epithelial Cells be passaged in culture?
Answertwo

Human Small Intestine Epithelial Cells can typically be passaged 3-5 times before their characteristics and functionality begin to diminish. Researchers often aim to use cells within a limited number of passages to ensure reliable and reproducible results in experiments.

QuestionsthreeWhat functions do Human Small Intestine Epithelial Cells perform in the small intestine?
Answerthree

Human Small Intestine Epithelial Cells are involved in nutrient absorption (such as carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids), secretion of digestive enzymes and mucus, maintaining the intestinal barrier, and interacting with gut-associated lymphoid tissues to regulate immune responses.

QuestionsfourWhere are Human Small Intestine Epithelial Cells isolated from?
Answerfour

Human Small Intestine Epithelial Cells are isolated from the small intestine, which includes the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum.
