MBT-2 is a mouse bladder transitional cell carcinoma cell line that exhibits epithelial characteristics with polyploidy. MBT-2 cell line is a well-established and widely used in vitro model for studying bladder cancer. Bladder cancer is the most common malignancy of the urinary system with limited treatment options and a low survival rate when developing into advanced bladder cancer. Research on bladder cancer may provide novel insight into the development of more effective therapies for this prevalent malignancy.
Why choose MBT-2 from AcceGen?
MBT-2 cells are derived from N-[4-(5-nitro-2-furyl)-2-thiazolyl] formamide (FANFT) induced C3H/He mouse. Cells are cryopreserved to ensure the best viability. Each vial contains more than 1×10^6 cells in 1ml volume.

MBT-2 provides researchers with a powerful tool to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying bladder cancer progression and metastasis. It can be grown in C3H/He mice to establish a syngeneic model that can be used to test the efficacy and response towards immunotherapy treatments.
Recommended Culture Medium and Conditions for MBT-2 Cells:
EMEM medium with 10% fetal bovine serum. Some data recommend the MBT-2 to culture in 1640 medium. It depends on your provider laboratory data. Antibiotics such as penicillin-streptomycin are commonly added to prevent contamination.
The doubling time of MBT-2 cells is approximately 1 day, though this can vary depending on culture conditions. Cells are harvested after treatment with 0.25% trypsin and 0.02% EDTA.
In 2000, the cell line was also found to be replicating type C retrovirus contamination.
As with any cell line, there’s a risk of contamination, either with other cell lines or with microorganisms. Contamination can compromise experimental results and lead to erroneous conclusions. Ensuring that the cell line used in experiments is crucial.
