Glomus jugulare tumors are paragangliomas originating from the adventitia of the glomus jugulare and distributed along the auricular branch of the vagus nerve and the tympanic branch of the glossopharyngeal nerve. Based on the location of tumor growth, those occurring at the jugular foramen of the skull base and its vicinity are typically referred to as glomus jugulare tumors, while those occurring in the tympanic cavity of the middle ear are called tympanic glomus tumors. However, due to the frequent difficulty in determining the primary site of the tumor clinically, both are often collectively termed as glomus jugulare tumors.
