Interleukin-31 (IL-31) is a novel cytokine, belonging to the IL-6 cytokine family due to its receptor’s similarity to the IL-6 receptor. IL-31 is mainly secreted by activated CD4+ T lymphocytes, particularly activated Th2 cells, mast cells, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It regulates cell-mediated immunity in the skin by perceiving peripheral nervous system itch, modulates lung immunity by increasing airway inflammation, and regulates gut immunity by defending against microbes.IL-31 signals through the IL31RA and OSMR (oncostatin M receptor) receptors to form a heterodimer complex, closely related to chronic pruritic skin diseases like atopic dermatitis. Monoclonal antibodies targeting IL-31 or its receptors can effectively reduce itch and sleep disturbances, improve skin lesions, and minimize local corticosteroid use.AcceGen’s IL-31 Reporter Cell Line is a reporter gene cell line that activates downstream signaling pathways and luciferase expression when IL-31 binds to the IL31RA and OSMR receptors. Luciferase readings indicate the activation effect of the signaling pathway, making it suitable for evaluating the in vitro effects of IL-31 and related drugs.
