The tonsils are a pair of flat, oval lymphoid organs located in the tonsillar fossa. They are called palatine tonsils, pharyngeal tonsils and lingual tonsils according to their locations. The palatine tonsils are the largest, and the tonsils are usually referred to as palatine tonsils. The interstitial cells are those cells in the tonsils that assist the parenchymal cells in tracheal function, mainly playing a supportive and protective role.
