HEK293 cells are immortalized human embryonic kidney (HEK) cells derived from a single healthy, electively terminated female fetus of unknown parentage. Immortalization was achieved by introducing Ad5 E1A and E1B genes, which interfere with cell cycle control and inhibit apoptosis. The presence of Ad5 enables efficient production of recombinant proteins, particularly those driven by the CMV promoter within plasmid vectors. Typically, HEK293 cells exhibit an epithelial morphology with a diameter ranging from 11 to 15µm. However, their size may vary depending on the culturing conditions, with adherent monolayer cultures displaying flatter and larger cells, while cells in suspension culture appear more spheroid.
Why choose HEK293 from AcceGen?
Choosing HEK293 cells from AcceGen ensures high-quality and viable cells that are sterile and free from bacterial, fungal, and mycoplasma contamination. The cells are handled by professional technicians who adhere to standard and optimal protocols, while rigorous quality control measures are implemented to guarantee reliable results.
