The H441 (NCI-H441) cell line, derived in 1982 from the pericardial fluid of a male patient afflicted with papillary adenocarcinoma of the lung, exhibits notable characteristics. Microscopically, these cells display an epithelial-like morphology with the presence of multilamellar bodies and cytoplasmic structures resembling clara cell granules. Cultured primarily in adherent monolayers, these cells also manifest rounded floating or loosely attached cells. Importantly, H441 cells possess a KRAS mutation (p.G12V c.35G>T) and demonstrate the ability to form colonies in soft agar with or without serum. Furthermore, these cells express both mRNA and protein for the major surfactant apoprotein (SP-A), rendering them pertinent for investigations in respiratory physiology. Subculture can be conducted with a split ratio of 1:3.
Why choose H441 from AcceGen?
AcceGen’s H441 cell line offers exceptional quality and viability, meticulously maintained under optimal conditions. Skilled operators have cryopreserved these cells, ensuring their purity by confirming their absence of mycoplasma contamination. Moreover, their identity is validated through STR analysis.

FOR RESEARCH USE ONLY
The H441 cell line serves as a versatile tool in various research domains. In the context of human lung adenocarcinoma, it aids in elucidating the intricate alterations in intermediate filament protein expression patterns. Furthermore, it plays a pivotal role as a human type II pneumocyte cell line within alveolar models, enabling the in-depth examination of oxidative stress and pro-inflammatory responses induced by heated tobacco products. Additionally, this cell line serves as an invaluable host for transfection, facilitating the expression of pulmonary surfactant protein (SP-B), thus contributing significantly to the advancement of our understanding of pulmonary physiology and disease mechanisms.
