The B95-8 cell line is derived from Cotton-top Tamarin Monkey peripheral blood lymphocyte, and its name comes from the B95 strain of Epstein Barr Virus (EBV), which was isolated from a case of transfusion-induced mononucleosis and used to immortalize monkey blood leukocytes. These cells release high titers of transforming EBV and should be handled at laboratory containment level 2. Originally thought to be derived from marmosets, DNA profiling has revealed that the B95-8 cell line comes from Cotton-top Tamarin Monkey Peripheral Blood Lymphocytes. The cells have a predominantly suspension-like morphology, with ovular cells or small clumps, and around 10% of the cells are adherent. They can be cultured in RPMI1640 medium supplemented with 10% FBS, with cell detachment sometimes achieved using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA.
Why choose B95-8 from AcceGen?
B95-8 cells from AcceGen are prepared in sterile conditions by professional operators within a professional laboratory setting. These cells undergo rigorous quality control measures to ensure their high viability. Stringent protocols are followed during the preparation and handling to maintain sterility and minimize contamination risks. The use of professional operators and adherence to strict quality control standards guarantee the reliability and consistency of B95-8 cells, making them a trusted resource for research and experimentation purposes.

FOR RESEARCH USE ONLY
The B95-8 cell line is extensively employed for its role as a source of Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) in transforming and immortalizing human B lymphocytes into continuous cell lines. This enables the indefinite propagation of cells from specific donors, ensuring a continuous supply of genomic material without the need for resampling.
These cells have diverse applications, including studying the effects of cytokines on B cell growth by regulating key cell surface molecules involved in intercellular communication. They are valuable for investigating the response to B-cell growth and differentiation factors. The versatility of the B95-8 cell line makes it a valuable tool for understanding the mechanisms underlying B cell biology and intercellular signaling.
