EBTr, also known as embryonic bovine tracheal cells, is a finite cell derived from the tracheal mucosa of the bovine fetus of Bos taurus, exhibiting fibroblast morphology. EBTr can be cultured in EMEM (EBSS), 2mM glutamine, 1% non-essential amino acids (NEAA), and 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS); or in DMEM medium with 5%-15% FBS. To passage cells, EBTr reaching 70-80% confluent can be 1:3 split with the help of trypsin digestion.
Why choose EBTr from AcceGen?
AcceGen produces EBTr under standardized sterile conditions with professional cryopreservation to ensure its safe for the customer’s use. We assessed the growth performance of EBTr, including cell morphology and viability in the quality control to make it reliable for consistent experimental outcomes.

EBTr is a useful tool in the research of bovine respiratory diseases, such as bacterium and virus studies of cattle. EBTr, as the epithelial cells of the tracheal, can be adhered to and invaded by mycoplasma bovis, resulting in bovine mycoplasmosis and causing significant economic losses for cattle producers worldwide. However, the molecular mechanism involved in the invasion is unclear. Moreover, the causes of bovine respiratory disease could include other gram-negative bacteria that express lipopolysaccharide (LPS). LPS has the ability to stimulate the innate immune system and induce an inflammatory response in the EBTr model. In sum, investigations using the EBTr model may contribute to a better understanding of bacterial immune evasion. EBTr can also be used for isolation, replication and quantitation of bovine parvovirus (BPV), bovine virus diarrhoea virus (BVDV), infectious bovine rhinotracheitis virus (IBRV) and parainfluenza type 3 virus.
